Character & Sketch Comedy Workshops

Free Character & Sketch Comedy Workshops
We’ll be creating comedy that is hilarious, human, and doesn’t punch down.
At The Scratch, we’re opening up free character and sketch comedy workshops in Bristol — and we’re doing things differently. This isn’t comedy that punches down. It’s bold in a different way: giving voice to the unheard, turning things upside down, and finding humour where it actually matters.
These workshops are for anyone who wants to say something — and make people laugh while doing it.
We’re focusing on performance-led comedy: character, sketch, and fast, bold moments that land. Work that feels alive, not overworked. You don’t need to be a writer or an actor — just ready to get involved.
Across the sessions, you’ll explore character creation, sketch ideas, and short-form comedy through prompts, games, and collaboration. You’ll test ideas, take risks, and discover what works in a supportive, playful space.
This isn’t a classroom. It’s a space to do, to laugh, and to make something. And it’s not just about trying things out — it’s about building towards something.
The work will move towards live sharings: a chance to perform, get feedback, and develop ideas further as the project grows. We’re building a comedy community from the ground up — a group of people who meet regularly, collaborate, and create something genuinely funny, bold, and alive.
The sessions are free, and we’re looking for people ready to commit — to show up, take part, and build something together over time.
