Free Scriptwriting Workshops

Professional facilitator leading The Scratch Theatre creative writing workshop in Bristol.

A Space to Write, Share, and Hear Your Words Live

What if scriptwriting didn’t sit in a drawer? What if it moved?

At The Scratch, we’re opening up free short-form scriptwriting workshops in Bristol, guided by a professional facilitator — a space to write, explore, and build work that actually goes somewhere.

This is open to anyone. Whether you’ve written before, enjoy creative writing, or want to try scriptwriting for the first time.

We’re focusing on short-form theatre: moments, fragments, and sharp ideas that live on stage. Writing that is quick, playful, and powerful — writing actors want to speak and audiences recognise. This isn’t about writing something perfect. It’s about writing something alive.

Across the sessions, you’ll work with prompts, images, characters, and ideas. You’ll write, test things out, and follow what sparks in a supportive, open space.

Because this isn’t just about writing — it’s about building towards something.

Your work won’t stay on the page. It will be heard. Through live sharings, actors will read your scripts out loud, giving you the chance to hear, shape, and develop your work in the room. Some pieces may move further into performance.

Alongside this, we’re building a community of writers — people who meet regularly, support each other, and create side by side.

This is a space to play, to try things out, and to write something you didn’t expect — while being part of something that’s growing.

If you’re in Bristol and want to explore scriptwriting in a way that feels fresh, open, and connected to performance, come and join us.
